No matter what age or gender – hair loss can happen to any of us.

According to research, hair loss is common and can affect up to 50 percent of people by the age of 50. Many of us are left wondering what factors stunt hair growth and if there's anything we can do.

What Causes Hair to Fall Out?

Finding hair in your tub, on your pillow, or in your hairbrush is completely normal.

The average person loses around 50-100 hairs per day. When hair loss starts to become an issue is when you begin to notice hair thinning and baldness visibly.

Let's take a look at common causes of hair falling out.

Family History

One of the many reasons people experience hair loss or balding is simply because of their family history. Hereditary hair loss isn't a disease but is a combination of genetics, hormone levels, and aging.

People who are subject to this type of hair loss typically start noticing significant hair changes in their 20s-30s. The beginning stages are hair thinning that eventually leads to complete hair loss on various areas of the scalp.

The goods news is that with the correct treatments and supplements, you can slow down the stages of hereditary hair loss.

Thyroid Disorders

When your thyroid gland produces too little or too much of a particular hormone, your body's processes are disrupted. One of those processes is hair development and growth. People with a thyroid condition may experience hair falling out. You may also notice hair thinning along the scalp and eyebrows.

Stress

Stress is another culprit for hair loss. There are three types of hair loss disorders that are associated with high-stress levels.

Telogen Effluvium causes the hair follicles to clump into a "resting place". Within a few months, the hair falls out when washing or brushing.

Trichotillomania is a disorder in which people pull their hair out due to high-stress levels or other uncomfortable feelings. People with this problem often pull hair out from their scalp, eyebrows, and other areas on the body.

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack hair follicles resulting in hair loss. It's believed that it may be brought on by high levels of stress. However, when stress is under control – hair can regrow.

Hormonal Changes and Medical Conditions

Hormonal changes, among other medical conditions, can contribute to hair loss. Our hormones operate on a delicate cycle. When they're disrupted, many health problems occur, including slow, long-term hair loss.

Other medical conditions such as lupus, diabetes, iron deficiency, eating disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, and other autoimmune diseases can contribute as well.

Poor Diet and Nutritional Deficiency

poor diet can be linked to hair loss since our bodies thrive on vitamin D, A, Efolic acid, iron, zinc, and biotin. When we don't receive these through our diets, our hair can suffer the consequences.

How to Prevent Hair Loss

Experiencing hair loss can be frustrating and emotional, but rest assured, some practices that can help prevent it. Let's take a look at a few.

Reduce Stress

As mentioned, stress can play a significant role in bringing about hair loss. This is why it's essential to manage your stress levels through practices such as therapy, meditation, exercise, or journaling.

Eat Healthy

Since diet can contribute to hair loss, it's crucial to eat healthy foods that support hair growth. The best foods for hair include eggs, berries, spinach, fatty fish, avocados, and nuts.

Supplement Diet with Biotin

Biotin is a B-vitamin that helps the body convert food into energy. This vitamin is essential for promoting healthy hair, skin, and nails. If you're experiencing hair loss, talk to your doctor about whether or not you could benefit from supplementing with biotin.

Recommended: Biotin Ultra, to support your hair, skin, and nail health.

Castor Oil For Hair Growth

Castor oil is full of vitamin E, minerals, Omega 6, 9, and fatty acids that help replenish hair that is dry, damaged, or lackluster. The oil is also anti-inflammatoryantifungal, and antibacterial thus allowing it to cleanse the scalp in order to rid it of any buildup that may be inhibiting growth.

Cold-pressed castor beans are an excellent source of ricinoleic acid, which helps promote hair growth and protect against hair loss. This monounsaturated fatty acid also speeds up circulation, stimulates follicles, moisturizes the scalp and leaves hair silky smooth.

Castor oil will also help your lashes and eyebrows grow faster and look fuller. It’s a great aid for the scalp too. If you are experiencing dandruff or a flakey scalp, give castor oil a try. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, Castor oil may help alleviate seborrhoeic dermatitis, a common cause of dandruff.

How to Apply Castor Oil for Hair

  1. Apply a few drops of our Cold-pressed Organic Castor Oil, which comes in 2 oz or 16 oz bottles. Since this oil is denser than most, certain hair types may need more or less.
  2. Work the oil into your roots, tips, and scalp. This works best on damp hair.
  3. Leave in for 15-20 minutes, or overnight for a more intense treatment.
  4. Wash to remove oil. This can take up to 3 washes to remove completely. You can use a conditioner before washing to help remove oil.
  5. Let hair air or towel-dry and avoid using a hairdryer, styling tools, or other hair products right away. If on a tight schedule, you may also style it as usual. It will work well too.

Note: Depending on how significant your hair loss is, we recommend you apply your castor oil treatment one or two times per week. Please mind that it may take around 3 months of consistent treatments to experience the best, most dramatic results.
